Pastoral Care

Monte prides itself on the role the staff and community play in the shaping of our young women. Our aim is to ensure that every student is cared for both within a formal and informal curriculum. While at Monte, students encounter the love of God through their experience of being treated with dignity and compassion. It is hoped that, through this experience, they may grow into self-confident young adults, capable of acting with honesty and integrity.

The Pastoral Care Program is run within Year levels. Tutor Groups meet each morning, enabling the interaction and participation of students and teachers in a small, personal environment. Each Year Group meets as a whole form on a regular basis to experience the integrated program of social and emotional care. Pastoral Care camps are held throughout the year and complement the program of development and personal growth.

Pastoral Care is an integral part of every aspect of the formal academic curriculum, whether through subject content or classroom management. The importance of positive role modelling is recognised throughout the College and all students are encouraged to accept responsibility for their personal contribution to the College community.

Students are offered many opportunities to develop their leadership skills while at Monte. A representative from each Tutor Group is elected to the Student Representative Council (SRC) which meets regularly to discuss issues of interest and concern to the whole student body. The SRC is responsible for many initiatives aimed at raising the level of social awareness among students and for planning fundraising activities in support of disadvantaged groups in the wider community.

Monte aims to create a supportive environment for individuals and groups with special needs, which is conducive to worthwhile learning and enhances a sense of belonging, demonstrating a caring concern for the well-being of all our students. Access to specialist care services is available as required for students with specific needs.

Monte offers the service of a full-time registered psychologist, whose role is to actively support and promote the social and emotional growth of students. The College Counsellor provides specialist assistance for the community, working with individual students, small groups, teachers and parents. Monte also has a Health Centre with a full-time Registered Nurse on the premises during school hours, to ensure that the health care needs of the students are met.
