During Term 4, an inter-homeroom debating competition is held during lunchtimes over 2 - 3 weeks. All students in Year 7 are welcome to participate and attend. No debating experience is required. Students debate a prepared topic against other colour Houses at lunchtime; this event encourages colour House spirit and is always well-attended. Furthermore it is a great way to experiment with new skills, perhaps meet some new friends and have a good time (guaranteed). Learning debating skills in the younger years will be most beneficial in the senior years of study.
Throughout the year, Monte is invited to attend a number of Debating days hosted by Universities, such as Macquarie, Sydney and UNSW. These days offer a unique opportunity for our debaters to continue to hone their skills, as well as network with students from other schools around Sydney. They are able to gain valuable feedback from University level debaters and adjudicators.
